Coming Soon to Oil & Gas: Emissions Reporting

As highlighted in a recent New York Times article, new emissions regulations are targeting the oil and gas industry. Significantly, this was "the last high-profile sector that was not addressed" by the EPA's previous efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions. Oil and gas facilities are required to begin monitoring and reporting emissions of various pollutants by March 2012.

This announcment marks just one development within a larger trend: pollution legislation worldwide is growing in scope and stringency. Compliance today requires Continuous Emissions Monitoring with smaller detection limits than ever before. The wide range of regulated compounds calls for comprehensive systems that integrate traditional CEM (SO2, NOX, CO, CO2, and O2) with monitoring of other harmful gas emissions (e.g. CH4, N2O, and H2S).

The titans of the oil and gas industry must now look to invest in CEM solutions that will stand up to future decades of legislation. To achieve that level of performance across all monitored species, the OMA-300 CEM system unifies three different spectroscopic technologies: UV-VIS diode array, non-dispersive IR sensing, and tunable diode laser. Centralized under a single controller, this powerful system uses the same intuitive interface as... (Read more about the solid state OMA-300 CEM System).
